Forward Insights on live events

A Forward Insight shows the reading for the group an event belongs to, such as far above VWAP or trend up into the break. On a live event, that group has to be decided from what was known when the event fired. This page explains what goes wrong when a study decides it later, and how to fix it.

How a study groups events

When you pick a breakdown in Attach to chart, the study sorts every event into a group and publishes one reading per group. Click an event on the chart and the popover shows the reading for its group, with the sample behind it.

Over history, every event already has all the bars after it. A study can look at them while it decides the group, and its results still add up.

Why a live event can get the wrong reading

A live event has no bars after it yet. If the study decides the group from bars after the event, the chart has to decide without them, and it can put the event in a different group from the one the study would pick once those bars arrive. The popover then shows a real number, from the wrong group.

Say the study groups opening range breaks by whether price held above VWAP for the next three bars. That is an outcome, not a setup. On a break that fired a minute ago, nobody knows yet, so the reading you see is a guess.

The popover warns you with This insight can be wrong on live events and an Update button.

What Update does

Update opens the study with a request to the Agent: group each event using only what was known when it fired, such as the bars before it, indicator values up to that bar and earlier events. Anything the old grouping read from after the event becomes a column in the study's results instead, so you keep that answer in the full report.

The readings on the chart stay the same kind of numbers. Each group's sample then counts exactly the events a live mark can land in.

Need more chart history

When the grouping needs data from before the event that the chart has not loaded, such as an indicator with no value yet, the popover says Need more chart history. Scroll back or wait for more data, then click the event again.
