Versions and profiles
A definition keeps every working change as a version, and every set of settings you use as a profile. Together they make sure an answer you already have never changes because you edited the definition afterwards.
Versions
Every working change to a definition is saved to its newest version. While nothing depends on that version, each change rewrites it, so ten attempts at getting the marks right do not leave ten versions behind. Once something does depend on it, the next change starts a new version and the old one is frozen. A version is depended on once:
you have run it over history and it found events, or a run is in progress
Events, studies and Forward Insights all belong to the version they were made with. Fix a bug in the definition and your existing events still show what the old version found. Run the new version over history to get events from the fix.
Look at an older version
Open the definition from Tools → Definitions.
Open the Versions tab. Each row shows Version N, when it was saved and what changed, with Latest on the newest and AI on the ones the agent made.
Click a version. The whole page switches to it: its datasets, studies and Forward Insights.
The version picker beside the definition's name does the same, and shows which version you are looking at. Charts always use the latest version when you add the definition.
Profiles
A definition can expose settings, such as the length of the opening range or the distance that counts as far above VWAP. A profile is a named set of those settings for one version.
Each profile is its own bucket. Its events, datasets, studies and runs stay with it, so a 15-minute range and a 30-minute range can be studied side by side without copying the definition. Default uses the settings written into the script.
Make a profile
Open the definition and click the Profile picker above the tabs.
Click New.
Type a Profile name, such as
30-minute range.Change the settings you want to differ from the default.
Click Save.
Choose the profile in the picker and everything on the page follows it. Run it over history to give it events of its own.
Profiles can only be added or edited on the latest version. On an older one the picker says Frozen on this version. When the definition moves to a new version, its profiles come with it.
Change or remove a profile
Click the edit button beside a profile in the picker to change its name or settings. Default cannot be edited. If the profile already has events or studies, Chartnaut warns This profile is in use before you save: click Override anyway only if you mean to replace its settings. The archive button beside a profile removes it from the list.
When the agent wants to change a profile's settings, it asks first with a Change "30-minute range"? card, and only goes ahead when you click Override.
When the numbers do not match
If a study shows fewer events than you expect, check the version picker and the Profile picker first. Studies and datasets are shown for the version and profile you have selected, and the Studies tab can switch between This profile and All studies.
