Connect MetaTrader
Connect a MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 login you already trade with, and Chartnaut can place orders at your broker from Charts and journal every fill without you copying anything across. Chartnaut runs a hosted terminal for the account, so nothing needs to be open on your own computer.
Each connected MetaTrader account uses one live slot while it is switched on: Starter has 1, Pro 2 and Ultra 4. How accounts work explains slots and pausing.
MetaTraderBefore you start
Have these to hand from your MetaTrader terminal or your broker's welcome email:
Login: your account number, for example 12345678.
Password: the trading password. An investor (read-only) password cannot place trades.
Server: the exact server name, for example Broker-MT5Server. In MetaTrader it is shown when you log in, and under File → Login to Trade Account.
Connect it
Open Trading → Accounts.
Click Connect account.
On What do you want to do?, choose Connect an existing account.
On Which platform?, choose MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
Type a Label, such as "Main" or "Funded".
Enter your Login, Password and Server, exactly as MetaTrader shows them.
Under Trade history, leave Sync past trades into Chartnaut ticked to import your closed trades, and pick a Lookback: 90 days, 1 year (the default), 3 years or All.
Click Connect.
Stay on the page while it reads Provisioning your MetaTrader 5 account. This takes up to a few minutes.
When Account connected appears, click Continue.
Above the Connect button, the form tells you how many live accounts your plan includes and how many are in use.
Chartnaut never stores or shows your password. The account's Settings tab shows the login and server only.
After it connects
The account appears on the Accounts page. Its dot turns green when the hosted terminal is live, usually within a minute.
If you left the sync ticked, the history import starts straight away and the row shows Syncing…. Chartnaut then needs you to link each broker symbol you traded to a Chartnaut instrument, once. Until you do, the row shows Needs mapping: click the account and link them. Symbol mapping and History import cover both steps. You can trade from Charts while the import runs.
To trade, open Trading → Charts, hover Select Account and choose the account. You can also connect a MetaTrader account from there with New account.
When it goes wrong
What you see | What to do |

Copy the server name from MetaTrader rather than typing it: it must match character for character.
