Notes, tags and templates
Chartnaut records what happened on a trade. Notes, tags and properties record what you thought about it, in a form you can search and filter later. All three live on a trade's Overview tab in its detail.
What it is for | Example | |
|---|---|---|
Notes | Free text about one trade | "Chased the second push. Should have waited for the retest." |
Tags | Which of a playbook's conditions were true | Above VWAP, A+ setup |
Properties | Your own fields, the same on every trade | Grade, Mistake, Recording link |
Notes
Write under Notes on the trade. Notes save a moment after you stop typing and when you click away.
Select text for bold, italic, headings, lists, checklists and quotes. Right-click for Insert, to add a list, checklist, heading, quote or divider.
Notes on a trading day as a whole belong in the Daily journal, where you can also reference trades, playbooks and studies with @.
Note templates
A template is a set of prompts you answer after every trade, so each review asks the same questions. For example:
Setup:
Why I entered:
Where I got out, and why:
Would I take it again?Create a template
On any trade, open Load template… beside Notes.
Click New template….
Name the template and write it.
Click Save.
Use a template
On the trade, open Load template….
Pick the template.
If the trade already has notes, Chartnaut asks Replace existing notes?. Click Replace to overwrite them, or Cancel to keep them. To add a template without losing what you wrote, right-click in the notes and choose it under Template instead: it goes in where your cursor is.
Templates are for trade notes. The daily journal does not use them.
Edit or delete templates
In Load template…, each template has edit and delete buttons. All templates opens the full list, with New template at the top. Deleting a template asks you to confirm and cannot be undone. Notes you already filled in from it stay as they are.
Tags
Tags come from the playbook a trade is filed in. Each playbook defines its own, such as Above VWAP or News day, so tags on a trade say which of the playbook's conditions held.
Set the trade's Playbook.
Click the value beside Tags.
Tick the tags that were true.
Click Save.
A trade without a playbook cannot be tagged. Changing a tagged trade's playbook clears its tags, and asks you first. Tags and criteria explains how to set tags up, and Playbook reports shows how they split your results.
Properties
Properties are fields you add once and fill in per trade. Click Add property on any trade, name it and choose a type: Text, Large Text, Select, Multi-select, Number, Checkbox, Date, Rating, URL or Duration. It then appears on every trade, and each trade keeps its own value.
In Trades, Custom Fields filters by any property except Large Text, for example every trade where Mistake is not empty. Trade detail covers editing and deleting properties.
