History import

History import brings the trades you already took on a MetaTrader account into Chartnaut, so your journal and reports start with your real record instead of an empty page. It reads your broker's history, asks you to link any symbols, shows you what it will write, and writes nothing until you agree.

Chartnaut Demo accounts have no outside history, so there is nothing to import.

What comes in

At your broker

In Chartnaut

Closed trades in the lookback

Imported trades in Trades, the journal and the account's reports

Positions open right now

Adopted trades, which you manage from Charts like any other and which are journalled when they close

Pending orders

Tracked, and picked up as trades when they fill

Imported trades have their fills and P&L, but no snapshots: Chartnaut was not watching your chart when you took them.

Run the first import

The import starts when you connect with Sync past trades into Chartnaut ticked, over the Lookback you chose: 90 days, 1 year, 3 years or All.

  1. Open Trading → Accounts. The account shows Syncing… while Chartnaut searches your broker's history. You do not need to stay on the page.

  2. When it shows Needs mapping, click the account and link each broker symbol to a Chartnaut instrument, or skip it. Symbol mapping walks through the list.

  3. Click Continue import.

  4. Chartnaut re-checks your broker, then shows Ready to import: how many closed trades it will import, open positions it will adopt, pending orders it will track and symbols you skipped.

  5. Click Import and adopt.

The account shows Adopting trades while it brings in your open positions, then the account's pages open as normal. While the import runs, the account's reports stay locked, but you can trade with it from Charts.

If your account kept trading while you were mapping, Chartnaut stops re-checking after a few rounds and skips any symbols still unmapped. The summary says so. Re-sync later to pick them up.

Run it again

Re-sync picks up trades that closed since the last import, or reaches further back with a longer lookback.

  1. Open the account and click the Settings tab.

  2. Under Trade history, choose a Lookback.

  3. Click Re-sync history.

You can re-sync once every 24 hours. If you have traded a symbol that is not linked yet, the account asks you to map it before the re-sync imports anything.

When it goes wrong

If the account shows Import failed, open it. The page reads Could not import closed trade history, with the reason below it and the broker's own message under What went wrong.

  • This account isn't fully connected yet, or We couldn't reach the broker history for this account: reconnect the account first. Manage an account covers Reconnect. Then click Re-sync.

  • Anything else: click Re-sync. If it fails again, click Copy beside the request ID and send it to Support.

If Re-sync is greyed out, the page shows when it becomes available again.
