Turn your trades into a playbook
By the end of this tutorial you will have a playbook called BTC opening range, with its entry rule and R-level targets set, the tags you check on every trade, and your BTC opening range trades filed and tagged inside it. You will read its reports and see exactly how far it is from training Historical Intelligence.
You need a few BTC trades in Trades first, from Chartnaut Demo, MetaTrader or a backtest session. Playbooks need Starter or above.
Create the playbook
Open Trading → Playbooks.
Click New playbook. The first step, Overview, explains what a playbook is.
Click Continue to Setup.
In Playbook name, type
BTC opening range.Pick a Color. The playbook shows in this colour on your trades and on the chart.
Under Risk-reward targets, leave Bare minimum at 1.0, Main target at 2.0 and Extended target at 3.0. These are your R-levels: where you take early profit, where the setup usually pays, and where you let a runner go.
Click Create Playbook.
Chartnaut opens the playbook on its Trade Book tab. It is empty for now, and says Add an instrument to start collecting. Filing your first BTC trade adds BTC for you.
Write down the entry rule
Click the settings button beside the playbook's name. Playbook settings opens.
Under Entry Trigger, write the rule in one sentence:
A 5-minute close outside the first 15-minute range of the New York session.Click Save.
Anyone reading the playbook later, including you in six months, now knows exactly which trades belong in it.
Add the tags
Tags are the conditions you tick on every trade. Pick the few that you think decide whether this setup works.
Open the Tags tab.
Click New tag, type
Above VWAP, leave the type on Checkbox and press Enter.Add two more checkboxes the same way:
Retest heldandGap day.Click New tag, type
Range size, choose Radio Group and press Enter.Under Range size, click New option and add
Narrow,NormalandWide.
A Radio Group takes exactly one option per trade, so every trade gets one range size. See Tags and criteria.
File your trades into it
Open Trading → Trades.
Click one of your BTC opening range trades. Its detail opens on the Overview tab.
Click the Playbook row. Under Log this trade to, choose BTC opening range. The first time, Chartnaut adds BTC to the playbook's instruments.
Click the Tags row. The list asks Which criteria does this position meet?
Tick the tags that were true on this trade and choose one Range size.
Click Save.
Open the next BTC opening range trade in the list and repeat.
From now on you can file trades as you place them: when you click Add to chart in the Position Manager, Chartnaut asks Log this trade? and shows the same tags. See Trading from the chart.
Read its reports
Open Trading → Playbooks and click BTC opening range.
Open the Overview tab. The top row shows Cumulative R, Win rate, Trades and Average R, with R over time beneath.
Open the Trade Book tab and switch to Table to check every trade you filed is there.
Open the Reports tab and click Correlations. For each tag, it compares your win rate on trades that had the tag with trades that did not.
Go back to Reports and try Trade Timing and Monte Carlo. Trade Timing shows which hours of the day pay you; Monte Carlo shuffles your results thousands of times to show the range of outcomes and drawdowns you could expect.
With twenty trades the numbers are a first read. Keep filing and tagging, and they firm up. See Playbook reports.
See what Historical Intelligence needs
Open the Historical Intelligence tab.
Choose BTC in the instrument tabs at the top. Historical Intelligence trains per instrument, and each tab shows its trade count.
Read Trades to train. You can train once BTC has 100 closed, tagged trades. Until then the panel below reads Not enough BTC trades yet.
Click Data sources to choose which trades count. Logged trades from the Trade Book are always included. The trades you filed from Trades count under Live (Chartnaut Demo and MetaTrader) or Backtest, so keep both switched on. Training total if saved shows the count before you save.
Check the three R targets in the targets panel match the ones you set. Change them here before you train: saving new targets later switches the model off until you retrain it.
Once BTC reaches 100, the button reads Train BTC. Click it and Chartnaut trains a model on your tagged BTC trades that gives the odds of reaching each of your three R-levels. How many playbooks and instruments you can train depends on your plan: see Historical Intelligence limits.
Your playbook now holds your BTC opening range trades, tagged the same way every time, with reports that show where the setup pays and a count that tells you how far you are from Historical Intelligence.
