Trade in real-time
Real-time trading in the Terminal routes orders to your connected broker — MetaTrader (MT4/MT5 today; more platforms coming soon) or Chartnaut Demo.
Chart, draft, confirm, and manage positions in one workspace. Every fill lands in Research → Trades.
Chartnaut is an agent-powered trading environment — you and agents use the same Terminal, accounts, and journal.
Before you start
Connect an account under Trading → Accounts — see Connecting your broker
Open Trading → Terminal → Real-time
Select that account in the top toolbar
Add instruments and wait for market data to load
You can chart without an account. Trading requires a connection.
Place a trade
Typical flow from the chart:
Add to chart or use the position manager to start a draft
Set size, stop, and target on chart or in the draft panel
Confirm the order — Chartnaut sends it to the broker
Manage the open position — move stops, partial, or flatten
MetaTrader may require Symbol Linking the first time you trade a chart market on that account.
Position manager and DOM
The position manager lists open positions, pending orders, and P&L for the active account.
Where your plan and broker support it, a DOM or depth ladder shows bid/ask size for quick entries.
Use whichever surface matches your style — chart-first clicks or ladder clicks. Both respect the same account and Symbol Linking rules.
Chart-first vs broker-first
Chart-first — pick the chart market, then link it to the broker symbol if needed.
Broker-first (MT5) — pick the broker symbol in the position manager, then attach to a chart tile when prompted.
Both paths end at the same confirmed live order. MetaTrader users often start broker-first when broker names differ from chart names.
Demo vs live MetaTrader
Chartnaut Demo — live market ticks, virtual balance. Good for learning Real-time without capital risk.
MetaTrader — real broker account. Same Terminal UI; real money at risk.
Treat Demo fills as journal practice. Treat MetaTrader fills as production trades.
After the trade
Closed and open positions sync to Research → Trades with snapshots where the product captures them.
Add notes and tags in the journal. Assign a Playbook later if you organize by strategy. See From live trade to journal.
You do not need a Playbook before your first live trade.
Agents
Agents can monitor, suggest, or execute within your permissions. Supervise live capital closely.
Every agent action should still appear in Trades — same memory as manual trading.
Risk framing
Chartnaut integrates execution — it does not remove market risk.
Size down when learning Symbol Linking and confirm steps. Reconnect accounts after broker maintenance before assuming quotes are current.
Important distinctions
Real-time is live broker routing. Replay is historical practice — no live orders.
Demo is not a Backtest. Demo uses live ticks; Backtest uses a session on history.
Connecting MetaTrader does not start a backtest.
