procedure

Create a study

Attach a Study to a Definition to define what you want to measure over collected events — forward returns, excursions, time to target, or custom cohort breakdowns.

Chartnaut is an agent-powered trading environment. Author in the study builder yourself, or let Conductor draft a study for you to edit.

Start

  1. Open Research → Definitions → [your definition]

  2. Go to Studies

  3. Click New study or Create study

You need at least one collected dataset (or plan to collect before running).

Author paths

Inline / quick

Some definitions offer a short form — pick a template question, attach a dataset, save.

Good for first pass metrics.

Full study builder

Opens the dedicated builder with:

  • Chat — describe the analysis in plain language

  • Author — configure cohorts, horizons, metrics

  • Preview — sanity-check on sample events

Same pattern as the Definition Builder.

AI-assisted

Describe the outcome you want — “average MFE in 10 bars split by long vs short.” Chartnaut drafts study logic. Review before save.

Attach datasets

Select which dataset (snapshot + collect) the study reads.

Match instrument and timeframe to the question.

Save

Name the study. It appears under the definition’s Studies tab, ready to run.

What good looks like

Study name matches the question. One primary metric. Cohorts only where you will act on the split.

Important distinctions

Create study = write the question and logic.

Run study = execute on history — separate step.

Trade study = journal analytics — not created here.

Next

  1. Run a study — execute and read output

  2. Event review — walk results on chart

  3. Studies overview — place in the stack
